AIDC & Greenpeace announce $5,000 VR project commission

18 December 2017

AIDC and Greenpeace are pleased to announce THE GREENPEACE VR COMMISSION – a new $5,000 commission for a nonfiction Virtual Reality (VR) project dealing with climate change.

The Greenpeace VR Commission will be offered as part of Australia’s first nonfiction VR/AR market – the VR Plus: Meet Your Maker marketplace at AIDC 2018 (presented by Jumpgate VR) – and is designed to support VR works offering a fresh perspective on climate change impacts or activism in Australia and/or the Pacific.

Creators wanting to pitch for the commission can do so by filling out a free application form at the VR Plus: Meet Your Maker marketplace page on the AIDC website before Sunday 21 January 2018.

As Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organisation, eligible projects cannot receive co-production funding from commercial entities or political parties (e.g. Coca-Cola or The Greens). However, media agencies, publishers and public funding bodies are acceptable (e.g. SBS, Guardian, Screen Australia, etc).

Selected project pitches will be delivered directly to Greenpeace representatives during the Meet Your Maker marketplace event on Sunday 4 March at AIDC 2018.

"We need wild creativity to meet the challenge of climate change,” said Ella Colley, Creative Producer for Greenpeace Australia Pacific.

“This commission aims to inspire powerful storytelling that presents fresh perspectives on climate change impacts and activism."

AIDC 2018’s VR Plus: Meet Your Maker is an Australian first for nonfiction VR/AR. The event aims to connect VR/AR creators with companies and organisations from all over Australia – forging new relationships, storytelling ideas, and development outcomes.

Alongside Greenpeace, other confirmed organisations participating in Meet Your Maker include: Google News Lab, Tribeca Film Institute, Adelaide Film Festival, SBS Digital Creative Labs, Screen Australia, ACMI, National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), Jumpgate VR and more.

VR Plus: Meet Your Maker will take place at ACMI, Fed Square, Melbourne on Sunday 4 March. Creators attending to pitch must hold an All Access Pass, or a VR Plus Pass ($250 inc. GST; available only for successful Meet Your Maker applicants.)
