2023 DOC.LAB.INTERACT PROJECT SELECTIONS ANNOUNCED

FIVE PROJECTS TO PARTICIPATE IN INTERACTIVE STORYTELLING PROGRAM

It’s time to announce the five exciting projects selected to participate in AIDC 2023’s Doc.Lab.Interact interactive nonfiction storytelling lab, presented by VicScreen.

Hosted by Amy Rose of leading UK creative studio Anagram, Doc.Lab.Interact is a practical workshop designed to teach nonfiction creators how to take their documentary project and turn it into an interactive or immersive work wrapped in an appealing pitch package.

The cutting-edge Lab takes place on Sunday 5 March with a two-hour session featuring guidance on how to successfully translate content into a non-linear or interactive medium: whether through VR experiences, gamification, immersive experiences or other innovative forms.

It’s all part of AIDC’s Innovation Day, a selection of sessions with a commitment to connecting, developing, and glimpsing into the future of our industry.

THE PROJECTS

Requiem

In Requiem, real astronauts who have spent time on the International Space Station (ISS) voice poems that lament the imagined future loss of the ISS when it is deorbited and destroyed (an event scheduled to take place by 2030).

Australia | Director: Rowena Potts; Sound Designer: Annie Breslin | Archival Futures Collective

The Futorical Society (and the woman who killed the weeds)

In a small town in Australia, past, present and future melt together as magic carpets and yabby claws fight noxious weeds and kings and queens for narrative supremacy.

Australia | Director: Kim Munro | Recorder

This Is Us

Australia’s national women’s football team’s transformational journey: from going on strike in 2015 to co-hosting the largest women’s football tournament on the planet, the FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Australia | Co-Director: Maggie Miles; Impact Producer: Leeanne Torpey | Savage Films, LM Films, Milestone Films

Replica

Replica follows young Chinese women as they explore an alternative approach to intimate relationships with their artificially intelligent companions in the digital age.

Australia, China | Director: Chouwa Liang; Producer: Andy Huang | Axel Rise Films

The Calling

After a near death experience a young man is confronted with the choices that brought him to his now broken reality. A supernatural experience guides him on a new path, one that calls him to connect with the traditions of his ancestors.
