AIDC 2022 GUESTS NOMINATED FOR ACADEMY AWARDS

FLEE AND WRITING WITH FIRE SECURE MULTIPLE NOMINATIONS

We’re thrilled to offer our congratulations to AIDC 2022 guests Jonas Poher Rasmussen, Rintu Thomas, and Sushmit Ghosh, whose projects have been nominated across three categories at the 94th Academy Awards!

In honour of this incredible news, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate their achievements, and give a nod to a few other previously nominated industry names coming to AIDC 2022.

FLEE (2021)

Danish-French filmmaker and AIDC 2022 headliner, Jonas Poher Rasmussen, has made awards history with his latest film, Flee (2021). The hybrid animated documentary has scored three nominations at the 2022 Oscars, across categories Best Documentary Feature, Best Animated Feature, and Best International Film.

Flee details the story of Amin Nawabi, an Afghan academic who is confronted with secrets from his past, and compelled to open up about his harrowing experiences as a child refugee.

WRITING WITH FIRE (2021)

Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh’s investigative documentary, Writing with Fire (2021), joins Flee (2021) in being nominated for Best Documentary Feature in 2022.

Dealing with truth, class and gender, Writing with Fire follows India’s only newspaper run by Dalit women, as they break traditions and redefine power in a news landscape dominated by men.

MORE ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATED & SHORTLISTED SPEAKERS AT AIDC 2022

Alongside the latest Academy nominees, AIDC 2022 will see a host of impressive industry guests whose works have also been recognised by the Academy through shortlists, nominations and victories.

Investigative filmmaker, Nanfu Wang (One Child Nation, I Am Another You, Hooligan Sparrow), saw her latest film In the Same Breath (2021) shortlisted for Best Documentary Feature at the 94th Academy Awards.

In the Same Breath is a startling exploration into how two of the world’s most powerful nations handled the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and prioritised their reputations over public safety.
