REGIONALITY CAIRNS SHINES A LIGHT ON DOCUMENTARY & FACTUAL IN FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND

BRINGING AIDC TO THE TROPICS

On Friday 2 September, AIDC swept into the Cairns Performing Arts Centre for a very special event.

An enthusiastic group of 70 delegates took part in the REGIONALITY CAIRNS conference and marketplace,  a region-specific industry program for documentary and factual filmmakers in Far North Queensland.

We extend our thanks to co-presenting partner Screen Queensland and supporter Screenworks in helping AIDC elevate and celebrate regional storytellers.

With the participation of 18 national and international guests, attendees heard from award-winning filmmakers like Rita Baghdadi (director of Sirens, USA), Douglas Watkin (pictured at top, director of Ella) and Christopher Amos (director of Hating Peter Tatchell), and enjoyed connection opportunities with industry experts such as Oli Harbottle (Dogwoof, UK), Nicky Cook (POV, USA), Josie Mason-Campbell (Fremantle Media), Stephen Oliver (ABC) and Bettina Dalton and Veronica Fury (Wildbear Entertainment).

The event was curated to include everything you would expect to encounter at an edition of AIDC, but in the space of a day!

REGIONALITY CAIRNS delegates were able to enjoy an inspiring masterclass, international decision maker roundtable, a live pitching event, industry expert panel discussions, 1:1 curated meetings, networking drinks and an additional film screening with special guests.

AIDC is committed to supporting regional documentary and factual practitioners by facilitating meaningful local and international connections, and hosting high calibre speakers, decision makers and events wherever we go.

Our biggest thanks to everyone who participated in AIDC’s second edition of the REGIONALITY initiative in tropical Cairns.
