Generations: Looking back at First Nations Factual

Indigenous Join new First Nations voices as they look back on the powerful history of First Nations filmmakers who paved the way for the next generation of storytellers.

Documentaries allow us to explore uncomfortable history and can allow for truth-telling on a large scale. For decades, First Nations filmmakers have harnessed the power of factual storytelling to change national discourse and change the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. With such a rich factual history, First Nations practitioners stand on the shoulders of giants.

Join new voices in the First Nations factual sector, Brooke Collard (Aboriginal Warrior), Kimberley Benjamin (Back to Nature), and Michael Hudson (Ties That Bind), as they share their most influential moments from the First Nations factual canon. From the trailblazers to the change makers, this session will explore the importance of sustaining First Nations truth-telling via documentary-making.
