SHAPING TRUTH THROUGH VISUAL LANGUAGE WITH 21-19
Craft Join 21-19 for an invigorating and forward-looking talk on how design can not only help package a documentary series, but also how it can shape the way truth is felt, understood and remembered.
In this invogorating talk led by 21-19, explore how design doesn’t simply package a documentary series – it shapes how truth is felt, understood and remembered.
Using a recent project as a case study, 21-19 will share how design and moving image direction functioned as narrative tools rather than decorative layers. From early ideation to final delivery, join 21-19 as they consider how typography, motion systems, archival treatment and graphic interventions are crafted to express emotion, structure story and build a cohesive cinematic identity.
Documentary storytelling presents a distinct challenge: you are working with reality which is unpredictable, nuanced and often fragmented. Without the control of scripted drama, design becomes an act of sensitivity and translation. How do you establish a visual identity that feels both authored and authentic? How do you create coherence across disparate voices without diminishing their individuality? And how do you intervene with intention – without intruding?
