Kimihia Films

Kimihia Films takes its name from the Māori word kimi which describes a quest, search or hunt, as well as being a play on Kim Webby’s own name.

Kim’s documentaries are quests to illuminate issues such as social injustice, or little-known worlds often from Māori or Chinese perspectives. They are stories that dominant culture overlooks or can’t easily access. Her people-centred stories invite outsiders in, to witness a diverse and sometimes confronting worldview.

Kim’s desire to closely collaborate with those communities and with other filmmakers makes Kimihia Films an umbrella for other special purpose companies, that include fellow creatives and sometimes the story subjects as well.

She has helmed Kimihia Films for 21 years.
