John Battsek is the Academy Award-winning producer of One Day in September and Searching for Sugar Man, and co-founder of Ventureland.

The Academy Award-winning One Day in September was conceived and produced by Battsek. He soon followed this with the Academy Award & BAFTA-winning Searching For Sugar Man, and then the Academy Award-nominated Restrepo and Winter On Fire, and Emmy-winning Manhunt: The Story Of The Hunt For Bin Laden, The Tillman Story and Forever Pure.

John served as producer on Grammy-nominated Eric Clapton: Life In 12 Bars and the BAFTA nominated & Peabody winning Listen to Me Marlon. John also served as Executive Producer on the BAFTA Award winning The Imposter and Hillsborough.

Other notable credits include multiple Emmy-winning The Rescue (National Geographic) and Critics Choice nominee The Real Charlie Chaplin (Showtime). He also served as producer on the double Emmy-winning Rising Phoenix, critically acclaimed biopics Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In, and Lady Boss: The Jackie Collins Story.

In 2020, John founded Ventureland with PRETTYBIRD partners Kerstin Emhoff, Ali Brown, and Paul Hunter. Under the Ventureland banner, John has produced the DGA, BAFTA and Academy Award nominated Bobi Wine: The People’s President which premiered at Venice and Telluride International Films and was acquired by National Geographic Documentary Films; Mary McCartney’s directorial debut about the legendary Abbey Road Studios, If These Walls Could Sing, which premiered in Telluride and on Disney+; Alex Gibney’s portrait of tennis legend Boris Becker, Boom! Boom! The World Vs Boris Becker (Apple TV+) which premiered at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival; and Laura McGann’s A24-financed Critics Choice Award-winning summer hit, The Deepest Breath (Netflix), which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2023.

Most recently, Ventureland has produced the critically acclaimed BAFTA nominated Wham! (Netflix) and the PGA nominated blockbuster docuseries, Beckham (Netflix).
