THE VENTURELAND YEARS WITH JOHN BATTSEK

From Academy Award®–winning features including Searching for Sugar Man and One Day in September, to recent global streaming titles such as Beckham and Wham!, John Battsek has built one of the most wide-ranging producing careers in contemporary documentary. In this spotlight, Battsek reflects on his journey as a producer on the path to Ventureland, the production company he co-founded in 2020 to develop documentary features and series for international audiences.

Spanning music, sport, politics and deeply human stories, Ventureland’s recent work includes streaming-era hits like The Deepest Breath, Bobi Wine: The People’s President and Boom! Boom! The World vs. Boris Becker.

In conversation with Nick Batzias (Good Thing Productions), Battsek will take us inside the Ventureland years and his unique approach to producing both feature documentaries and series. The session will explore the art of accessing and documenting notorious public figures, working with archives and creative collaborations to deliver projects for global audiences across genre, formats and platforms.
