DOCUMENTING INDIGENOUS ICONS: JOURNEY HOME, DAVID GULPILIL AND EMILY: I AM KAM
Indigenous The creative teams behind Journey Home, David Gulpilil and Emily: I Am Kam share insights into crafting complex and multi-layered biographies of two Indigenous artists who have left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape with their art in life and in death.
In this session, director Trisha Morton-Thomas and producer Maggie Miles will discuss the long and complex pathway to crafting Journey Home, David Gulpilil, documenting the return of renowned Indigenous actor David Gulpilil to his ancestral homeland for burial following his passing. The session will also feature the creative team behind Emily: I Am Kam, director Danielle MacLean and producer Anna Grieve, discussing their portrait of the trailblazing Aboriginal artist Emily Kam Kngwarray.
These creative duos will share insights into crafting complex and multi-layered biographies of Indigenous artists who have left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape with their art in life and in death – from storytelling and creative choices to navigating intricate rights clearances and cultural protocols.
