EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI) FORM
TERMS OF REFERENCE
1. Role/Purpose
AIDC is a leading not-for-profit organisation for the documentary and factual sector in Australia, committed to supporting and elevating nonfiction storytelling and storytellers through creative and business opportunities across film, television, streaming and digital media to create a vibrant, diverse and sustainable industry ecosystem.
AIDC presents the Australian International Documentary Conference – the premier documentary and factual event in the Southern Hemisphere – along with bespoke regional events and a suite of tailored industry development programs and initiatives.
AIDC features a marketplace for documentary and factual content, a curated program focusing on craft, business and innovation, industry development and awards programs and networking opportunities to facilitate new connections and contribute to a sustainable future for our sector.
AIDC is seeking Expressions of Interest for three Board Director positions.
Board Directors contribute to strategic oversight, governance and advocacy for AIDC. These appointments are an opportunity to contribute strategic leadership to an organisation that plays a vital role in the Australian and international documentary ecosystem.
Membership to the AIDC Board of Directors is a voluntary/unpaid position.

2. Term
Board terms are for three (3) years from commencement and directors serve for no more than two consecutive terms.
3. Composition of the Board of Directors
The AIDC Board of Directors is made up of no less than seven Directors and no more than 11.
AIDC is committed to ensuring that diversity, inclusion and equity are embedded throughout our organisation and especially on our Board of Directors. We believe our people are our greatest asset and by supporting and incorporating their diverse talents, knowledge, perspectives and experiences, we can strengthen as an organisation.
The Board is looking to strengthen its governance with individuals who can bring diverse professional perspectives, networks and expertise to support AIDC’s next phase of growth.
AIDC is seeking skills and expertise across the following key priority areas:
- Public Policy and Government Engagement
Experience working with, or exposure to, State or Federal politics, including an understanding of government processes, policy development and stakeholder engagement. - Fundraising and Philanthropy
Experience in securing philanthropic support and major gifts, government funding and grants, partnerships and developing long-term funding relationships. - Commercial and Financial Acumen
Senior business, finance or investment experience, with the ability to contribute to strategic planning, financial oversight and sustainable organisational growth. - Governance Experience
Prior board experience in the arts, cultural, not-for-profit or corporate sectors will be highly regarded. - Next-Generation Leadership
The Board is particularly interested in appointing one member aged between 26–35, bringing contemporary industry perspectives, emerging leadership and new networks. - Events, Marketing or Publicity Expertise
Experience in event management, audience development, publicity, marketing or communications, particularly within cultural, media or screen sectors.
AIDC encourages applications from First Nations Australians and people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are also seeking applicants who are from regional, remote or non-metropolitan Australia.

4. Roles & Responsibilities
The AIDC Board of Directors works with the AIDC Executive Team to:
- oversee the governance framework to ensure the organisation meets its obligations
- set the strategic direction of the organisation
- oversee financial performance of the organisation
- oversee the risk management strategy
- leverage professional networks for fundraising and other forms of in-kind support
- play an active role in building a culture of integrity by modelling the behaviours based on the public sector values and standards
- oversee the performance and remuneration of the organisation’s CEO/Creative Director
- operate within its statutory powers and policies
- oversee the occupational health and safety of the organisation
- manage stakeholders
We are seeking committed board members who can:
- Attend virtual board meetings approximately every six weeks
- Attend and participate in AIDC Strategic Plannings days for 1-2 days each year (ideally in person)
- Attend and actively participate in the annual four-day conference
- Participate in one or more sub-committees aligned with your field of expertise and/or area of interest
