A philanthropic fund for emerging and diverse documentary practitioners

OVERVIEW

Leading Lights is a philanthropic funding program for emerging and diverse documentary practitioners.

We believe that a wide variety of voices and perspectives is vital for a healthy screen industry.

To help new talents enter the industry community, AIDC’s Leading Lights Fund has been designed to enable early career, Indigenous and CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) practitioners to attend AIDC for the first time.

The goal is to bring new voices to the table, enrich the documentary and factual community, and build the foundations for the future of the industry.

Since the Fund’s launch in 2018, 41 Australian screen companies have helped 65 new practitioners join the industry community at AIDC. Donors include CJZ, Princess Pictures, Media Stockade, Screenrights, Beyond Productions, Blackfella Films and Northern Pictures, to name but a few.

As we move toward AIDC 2020, we hope to see even more donors get behind the program and help usher in a new generation of factual screen creators.

Please Note: the application period for Leading Lights recipient funding will reopen early 2020. However, donations to the Leading Lights fund can be made at any time.

“THE DOCUMENTARY SECTOR AND BROADCAST IN GENERAL IS RAPIDLY CHANGING, BUT ONE THING WE ARE AWARE OF AS PRODUCERS IS THE CONTINUING NEED FOR BRIGHT, INNOVATIVE THINKERS ENTERING THE INDUSTRY TO HELP SHAPE THIS CHANGE. NORTHERN PICTURES IS PROUD TO BE AN ONGOING SUPPORTER OF LEADING LIGHTS AND WE HOPE THIS INITIATIVE WILL CONTINUE TO ILLUMINATE THE PATHWAY FORWARD FOR NEW TALENT.”

BECOME A LEADING LIGHTS DONOR

We are now inviting our screen organisations and individuals to make a tax-deductible donation to help usher in a new generation of factual storytellers. Each donation of $650 enables one emerging and diverse nonfiction practitioner to attend AIDC.

All Leading Lights donors will be invited to attend the Leading Lights Meet and Greet on Sunday 1 March 2020 and will be gratefully acknowledged in the AIDC program guide, on the AIDC website and on a cinema slide before every conference session and screening at the event.

Donation levels are as follows*

  • $650 – 1 x Leading Light Recipient
  • $1300 – 2 x Leading Light Recipients
  • $1950 – 3  x Leading Light Recipients
  • $2600 – 4  x Leading Light Recipients
  • $3250 – 5  x Leading Light Recipients

*Additional donations are welcome in increments of $650 for each Leading Light recipient

Please pledge your support to the 2020 Leading Lights fund to welcome new and diverse voices to the documentary and factual community.

If your organisation would like to help usher in the next generation of nonfiction screen content creators, please email [email protected].

AIDC is a registered charity with DGR status, and your donation is tax deductible.

WHO CAN APPLY TO ACCESS THE FUND?

Any documentary and factual screen content creators who are early-career, Indigenous, and/or from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are eligible to apply.

An Industry Committee will assess applications and award successful applicants with an AIDC Focus Pass.

A Focus Pass provides access to all AIDC sessions, panels and masterclasses, and observer access to FACTory 2020 pitches, but excludes participation in the AIDC Marketplace. Read more about Focus Passes here.
