Trevor Smith is Executive Vice President at This Machine and R.J. Cutler’s longtime producing partner.

Smith’s documentary-producing credits include the Oscar-shortlisted Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry, BELUSHI, and The World According to Dick Cheney.

Recent projects for Smith include The Disappearance Of Shere Hite (IFC), which premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, and the television series Big Vape: The Rise and Fall of Juul (Netflix). Smith is the Executive Producer of the non-fiction series Murf the Surf: Jewels, Jesus and Mayhem in the USA (MGM+) and Supreme Models (YouTube’s Black Voices Fund). He is also the Co-Executive Producer of the critically acclaimed Dear…, currently in its second season on Apple TV+. 

Upcoming projects include South To Black Power (HBO), Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Disney+), Lee Soo Man: The King of K-Pop (Prime Video), and the Untitled Martha Stewart Documentary (Netflix). 

In 2022, Smith was named a ‘40 Under 40’ honoree by DOC NYC and HBO Documentary Films. The annual list celebrates emerging talent in the documentary world. Smith is currently serving as co-chair of the Documentary & Non-Fiction Committee for the Producers Guild of America. Smith is also a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the Documentary Producers Alliance and the International Documentary Association. 

Smith has been shortlisted for an Academy Award and a BAFTA for Best Documentary Feature. Smith is also a Silver Telly Awards winner, a Critics Choice Documentary Awards nominee, a Grierson Awards nominee, a Webby Awards nominee, a People’s Choice Awards nominee, an MTV Movie & TV Awards nominee and the recipient of the ‘Best Producer’ Award from the Pacific Film and Television Commission’s Queensland New Filmmakers Awards.
