Growing up on the mean streets of Ringwood in the 1980s, Simmone Howell spent her teenage years watching representations of ‘bad girls’ and grew up to write about them.

Simmone is the author of YA novels ‘Notes from the Teenage Underground’ and ‘Girl Defective’. Her non-fiction has been published in the Age Spectrum, Kill Your Darlings, Overland and other journals. She is in her final year of a PhD at LaTrobe University researching life-writing and the teenage experience.
