Jaye Kranz is an award-winning documentary audio producer and writer based in Melbourne.

Her sound-rich radio features have aired on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3,the Third Coast Audio Festival podcast, and on numerous shows nationally across the ABC RN grid. Her BBC feature Deep Time and the Sparrowhawk won two gold trophies at the 2019 New York Radio Festival Awards in the ‘Best Sound’ and ‘Best Documentary’ categories.

Jaye has published a novella with Random House, and been anthologised in short story collections published by Picador, Vintage, and others. She writes occasional nonfiction for The Monthly, and recently spent a year screenwriting for US film company Plan B Entertainment. She was a recipient of an Emerging Writers Grants from the Australia Council’s Literature Board and the Queen’s Trust Fund.

Jaye was a guest presenter at the 2016 and 2018 Audiocraft Festival and Conference. She has mentored in audio storytelling; was on the production team for the podcast Braided; and has hosted and produced various nonfiction writers’ festival events, including the sellout Melbourne Writers Festival event The Radio Hour.

Under the moniker Brighter Later, Jaye wrote and self-produced the full-length album The Wolves, earning her a nomination for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. As frontwoman for the Melbourne outfit, she has supported the likes of Martha Wainwright and Calexico (USA).
