Sara Dosa - Love in the Time of Archive

Spotlight Join Sara Dosa, director of the multi-award-winning Fire of Love, as she shares insights into her bold filmmaking process across story, editing, narration and score to create an intimate, archive-driven love story about volcanologists, Maurice and Katia Krafft.

Sara Dosa’s multi-award-winning, Fire of Love, tells the ill-fated story of French volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft, who were as passionate about volcanoes as they were about each other. Dosa breathes new life into Katia and Maurice’s 16mm archives documenting their adventurous spirit, geological discoveries and ground-breaking expeditions to the heart of volcanoes across the world.

In this exclusive Spotlight session, we explore Sara’s unique approach to nonfiction storytelling to create a boundary-pushing documentary portrait that nods to the quirk and whimsy of a Wes Anderson film and the lyricism of a French New Wave classic. Sharing insights into story, editing, narration and score, Sara takes us on an expedition of her process to create an intimate love story that traverses through time to explore global themes of nature, creation, destruction, love, life and meaning.

This session will be preceded by a Welcome to Country.
