Investigative Journalism to Long Form Screen Features

Craft Join leading Australian journalists and filmmakers as they discuss the work they have created for Stan Originals Revealed slate, a new series of original documentaries based on major investigative stories.

World-class investigative mastheads operate by a strict code of conduct, and the world of feature filmmaking operates by its own set of protocols. When undertaking the process of transforming investigative journalism into feature films, a new set of storytelling principles needs to be applied; all while taking care to maintain the journalistic integrity of the source material and navigate an additional set of legal, ethical and creative considerations. Such considerations inform the challenges and opportunities faced by Stan Original’s Revealed banner, launched in 2022, with its innovative in-depth documentary features.

In this session, join leading Australian journalists from The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, Nick McKenzie and John Silvester and filmmaker Sascha Ettinger-Epstein as we explore the first works created for the Stan Originals Revealed slate.

Moderated by Amanda Duthie, Head of Stan Originals, we will delve into how these collaborators have used the narrative structure of feature-length documentaries as a lens to both amplify and examine pressing current issues.
