The documentary premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, where it won all three major documentary awards. The film went on to make Academy Awards history as the first documentary ever to receive simultaneous Oscar® nominations for Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film.

Known for a unique style of blending observational cinema with cinematic narrative, her recent film, The Tale of Silyan, premiered at the Venice Film Festival where it won the Muse Award and the Cinema & Arts Award. It won ten Grand Prix honours, including the International Documentary Association Award for Best Documentary and Chicago Silver Hugo awards, plus PGA and Critics Choice nominations.

Currently, Kotevska is developing the documentary The Mammoths That Tried to Escape the Kingdom of Elrih Khan, supported by Sundance and Catapult Film Fund.
