Surviving R. Kelly

Screening In this game-changing television event, women from R. Kelly’s inner circle come forward with their harrowing accounts of sexual abuse by the R&B heavyweight.

Despite numerous abuse allegations dating back 25 years, R. Kelly’s career remained relatively unscathed until the #metoo era. From his illegal marriage to 15-year-old pop musician Aaliyah in 1994 to multiple accusations of inappropriate sexual conduct with minors, his story is yet another example of a celebrated man abusing his power for decades with almost no consequences.

The devastating revelations in this six-part TV series sent shockwaves through the US entertainment industry. Many of his previous collaborators, such as Lady Gaga, Celine Dion and Chance the Rapper, publicly renounced their collaborations. Record label RCA removed R. Kelly from their roster, and Spotify made the (publicly heralded, and now rescinded) decision to remove all R. Kelly music from Spotify-owned playlists.

Surviving R Kelly features interviews with #metoo founder Tarana Burke, #muteRKelly founders Kenyette Barnes and Oronike Odeleye, and a staggering number of firsthand interviews with women recounting their experiences with the R&B heavyweight.

Please note: a ticket grants admission to all six episodes.
