Melbourne Central Station is the primary train station when travelling to State Library Victoria. It is located within Zone 1 and is a short walk from the venue. You will require a MYKI card which can be purchased at any metropolitan train station and most major convenience stores. Information about where to purchase your MYKI and how to use our public transport system which includes trams and buses can be found at Public Transport Victoria.
Trains operate until approx. 12:30am Monday – Friday and run on a reduced timetable over the weekend. We advise that you plan your journey in advance.
Tram numbers 1, 16, 3, 5, 6, 64, 67 and 72 all stop on Swanston St outside the main entrance of State Library Victoria. You can also catch trams 30 and 35 (City Circle Tram) along La Trobe Street to the Library.
Melbourne operates a Free Tram Zone in the CBD which includes the area from the iconic Queen Victoria Market across to Victoria Harbour in Docklands, up to Spring Street and over to Flinders Street Station and Federation Square.
Travel on trams within this zone is free, and you don’t need a MYKI, however, if your journey starts or finishes outside the boundaries of the Free Tram Zone, you must touch on your MYKI at the reader in the normal way to make sure you have a valid ticket.
The Free Tram Zone signs at tram stops will identify the boundaries of the zone.
Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) is located approximately 25km north-west of the Melbourne’s CBD. All major and domestic airlines fly into Tullamarine Airport.
Taxi ranks are located on the ground floor outside Terminals 1 and between Terminal 2 and 3. Taxi ranks are located on the ground floor of the transport hub outside Terminal 4.
Melbourne Airport has six car rental companies located on site. All have offices on the ground floor of the Terminal T1, T2, T3 car park, and information desks in the Melbourne Airport domestic terminals. Click here for companies operating from Melbourne Airport.
Skybus offers an express bus service from the airport to the city centre. This service operates 24/7, including all public holidays. Buses run every 10 minutes throughout the day.
Tickets can be purchased on arrival at the bus stop or purchased online at www.skybus.com.au.
On arrival at Southern Cross Station in the city, SkyBus provides a complimentary hotel transfer service (see website for exclusions).
PARKING AT STATE LIBRARY VICTORIA
The Library doesn’t have on-site parking, but there is paid street parking on La Trobe Street and several pay car parks close by, including at Melbourne Central and QV. There are three parking spaces for people with a disability permit in La Trobe Street.
