VR Plus - Ingrid Kopp

Senior Consultant in the Interactive Department at the Tribeca Film Institute (TFI) Ingrid Kopp joins the AIDC 2018 guest line-up as Keynote Speaker for the conference’s VR Plus program, returning for its second year in an expanded form.

A respected global expert in new media storytelling, Ingrid facilitates interactive and cross-platform projects through the TFI New Media Fund and TAA Interactive Prototype Fund, and created Tribeca Hacks and TFI Interactive to create a space for story+tech+design experiments and conversation.

She curates Tribeca Film Festival’s Storyscapes program, and co-directs Electric South, an organisation dedicated to supporting new African creators tell stories through Virtual Reality, interactive web documentaries, short and feature non-fiction and other mobile-based content.

Thanks to the assistance of the Swinburne University of Technology, Ingrid will participate as both speaker and decision maker for VR Plus – a forum, marketplace and networking program for innovative nonfiction storytelling within the 2018 Australian International Documentary Conference.

The aim of VR Plus is to create opportunities for digital creators to stretch the boundaries of nonfiction storytelling - by bringing leading thinkers to inspire them, and by hosting Australia’s first-ever nonfiction VR/AR/MR marketplace, Meet Your Maker.

VR Plus - Meet Your Maker

Meet Your Maker - Presented by new AIDC Major Partner Jumpgate VR - is a pitching marketplace specifically designed for nonfiction creators working in the VR/AR sector.

Submitted projects will be assessed by acclaimed nonfiction VR studio VRTOV (Easter Rising: Voice of a Rebel, BBC) and award-winning writer-designer-director Christy Dena and those selected will get to pitch to decision makers with the aim of forging relationships, storytelling development and real business outcomes.

Companies and funding/commissioning bodies currently confirmed to participate in Meet Your Maker include:

Google News Lab
Tribeca Film Festival
Adelaide Film Festival
SBS Digital Creative Labs
Screen Australia
National Gallery of Victori
a (NGV)
Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF)
Film Victoria
Screen Queensland
South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC)

...with more to be announced.

Commenting on the involvement of Jumpgate VR as major partner, the company’s Managing Director, Anton Andreacchio, said, “We saw this as a practical way to help support the greater development of the Australian VR Plus marketplace. With the technology, audiences and strategic environment changing extraordinarily quickly, the Meet Your Maker Market is a chance to put filmmakers and storytellers at the centre of the right conversations, rather than just focusing on the tech.”

The VR Plus program of two sessions, Meet Your Maker marketplace, and exclusive VR Plus networking event will take place on the first day of AIDC 2018, Sunday 4 March. VR Plus sessions and networking can be attended with an AIDC All Access Pass, or sessions-only with a Focus Pass. Passes are on sale now.

Applications to participate in the Meet Your Maker marketplace are free and close Sunday 21 January 2018. If selected, participants will need to hold an All Access Pass or Meet Your Maker market pass (available only to successful applicants).
