2008 Conference - Introduction
"AIDC 2008 will have a special focus on storytelling because telling stories is the core business of our industry. Western Australia, home of some of the oldest living storytelling traditions in the world, is the perfect location to look into the parameters of a good story.
"Stories make use of many vehicles to travel from the teller to the audience; the latest vehicles are the opportunities mass and new media bring us. The history of storytelling stretches from rock art to media rich websites and television programs.
"Stories can have a deep cultural meaning and context, the sum of the collective stories defines a culture. Stories have many different purposes like transfer knowledge between people, define a collective identity, stories can entertain and they can set to action. The power of a story depends on how it is told."
Joost den Hartog
Conference Director
AIDC 2008 will focus on the different elements of storytelling in the media production process. Through a number of sessions the roles of collaborators in the creative process of filmmaking are investigated from the angle of their contribution to the story. The director, the writer, the producer, the editor and the commissioner all contribute to the final story. Master classes, craft sessions and discussion panels around the central theme of storytelling will be programmed throughout the conference along with the traditional and popular AIDC MarketPlace.
Networking opportunities are presented at the AIDC in addition to the official Welcome Function. Introductions between filmmakers, producers and potential buyers will be facilitated by AIDC’s industry focused sales office team.
